DescriptionCanid shot at Matsudaira agricultural station (1910) 1.jpg |
English: 18.75 kg canid shot at the Matsudaira agricultural station in Fukui Prefecture, August 1910. Its identity remains controversial; as the grey wolf had been considered extinct since 1905, it was initially identified as either a feral dog or an escaped captive Korean wolf. Japanese zoologist and wolf expert Yoshinori Imaizumi, former head of animal studies at the National Science Museum, and his colleague Mizuko Yoshiyuki, also of the National Science Museum, examined the photo in the early 2000s, and concluded it was indeed a grey wolf. |
