urts of Justice p. 217. The location of Canons house and mill is shown in acurious way. A road to Jacob Bausmans Ferry opposite Pittsburghwas reported in June of 1784, and ordered to be openedthirty-three feet wide. On the map showing its coursesand distances, both the house of John Canon and GeneralNeville are shown, and as they both were viewers andsigned the order filed with the plot, it is not probable thatthey would sanction a false location for either house. Thisplot may throw some light on a locally disputed question,as to the site of John Canons House. The authority to grant roads having been for sometime now vested at Washington, instead of the east forkof Chartiers having its own way undisputed, the Countyseat seems to have been somewhat jealous of our Found-ers influence, for at No. 6 September Sessions of 1784, wefind the following curious record:—To the WorshipfulCourt of Washington County now sitting, The petitionof a number of the inhabitants of Strabane Township hum-
