Description
  • Scope and content: This file unit consists of correspondence related to Cape Poge Light on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts received by Benjamin Lincoln, Henry Dearborn and Henry A. S. Dearborn, in their capacities as Superintendents of Massachusetts Lighthouses, collateral to serving as the first three Collectors of the Port of Boston. The correspondence relates to the purchase of land for the lighthouse, expenses for construction and supplies, and the appointment of a lighthouse keeper. Included are letters from Treasury Secretary Albert Gallatin, Revenue Commissioner William Miller, and Lighthouse Keeper Mathew Mayhew.
