English: Capel Talar Rodio, Stryd y Capel Talar Rodio Chapel is a Calvinistic Methodist place of worship standing in Stryd y Capel (Chapel Street)and is a Grade II registered building dating from 1860. It stands next to a manse built in 1887, part of which can be seen on the right. This chapel replaced an earlier one dating back to 1785. It remains open.
It used to be the proud boast of the incumbents of Aberffraw that "There are no Methodists in this parish" Then, in 1780 Hugh Owen, a scion of the ruling Bodowen Estate was appointed rector. During the next thirty years, he spent a total of two months in the parish and the rest of his time in the fleshpots of Dublin. He paid pittance to a semi-literate curate to conduct services at Aberfraw. By Owen's death in 1810, the majority of the parishioners had deserted Anglicanism and joined either the Calvinistic or Wesleyan Methodists. |
