English: Ex-GWR South Wales main line at Pengam Sidings, east of Cardiff. View eastward, taken from an Up express, towards Newport and the East. A Down class H freight is approaching (headed by 2-8-2T No. 7250, the Collett rebuild (2/39) of Churchward 2-8-0T No. 4219 of 12/1912, withdrawn 9/64. On the right, Collett '5600' class 0-6-2T No. 6608 (built 9/27, withdrawn 6/64) is shunting, with a typical GWR 'Toad' brake-van. The formerly important Taff Vale Roath Branch crosses overhead, from Pontypridd and Caerphilly via Heath Junction to the right, to Roath Docks to the left. |
