Description
English: Carletonite
Locality: Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada (Locality at mindat.org)
A very colorful, rich, 3-dimensional specimen of carletonite from the world's best (only, according to MinDat) locality for the material. This piece has VERY rich royal blue color, and a crystal of 1.8 cm on top. While not the largest, these are still very respectable bordering on huge, and the QUALITY is high in that the 2 major crystals are freestanding rather than , as usual, embedded in a jumbly matrix of others. Frankly, I had thought the good carletonites all sold out , as these came out of the ground about 5 years ago, and was VERY surprised to see a good one for sale at a reasonable price at the show from Gilles Haineult, who collected them back in the late 1990s. I would have bought this one, had I seen it, at any time since. Sometimes things just get lost and resurface this way. Even at this price, I think it is cheap compared to the VERY few others I have seen for sale, of any significance, in the last 3-4 years. To me, it is irreplaceable 4.1 x 3.7 x 3.1 cm
