Summary edit

Description

central staircase, ca' foscari, university of venice, restoration 1935-1937 architect: carlo scarpa, 1906-1978

the materials may be familiar to scarpa fans, but their treatment in the handrails of the 1935-1937 restoration is much more conventional than in his later works - the hammered iron surfaces bringing just a whiff of medievalism, popular for all the wrong reasons at the time.

or am I being unfair?
