English: Cars appear to be stored here The sign on the gate, depicting two crossed rifles, is a security firm's notice to warn off burglars; the black blotch seen just above the damaged wall at the very left is an alert Rottweiler keeping guard.
This area was once part of an airfield. A warren of roads and tracks to both sides of this section of Hindolveston Road still connect what used to be sheds and hangars of the technical units. Work commenced in 1941 on this RAF airfield, which had three concrete runways, 37 hardstandings and seven hangars. During the early fifties it was used by USAF ground units and it was still reasonably intact until the 1980s. One of the hangars has since been used to hold bulk grain for an agricultural merchant; another is used by the Department of the Environment to store equipment and yet another by a warehousing company.
