  • Significance: Considered the most grand Victorian home in America, the Carson Mansion was built from 1884 to 1886 for lumber baron William Carson, noted as the first man to mill redwood. The 18 roomed mansion housed 3 generations of Carsons until sold for $35,000 in 1950 to a preservation group.
