Description
English: Detail from mural monument to Joan Wyndham (1669-1687), who died aged 18, Clovelly Church, Devon. She was the first wife of William Cary (c.1661-1710), lord of the manor of Clovelly, twice Member of Parliament for Okehampton in Devon 1685-1687 and 1689-1695 and also for Launceston in Cornwall 1695-1710 and was the daughter of Sir William Wyndham, 1st Baronet (c.1632-1683) of Orchard Wyndham, Somerset, Member of Parliament for Somerset 1656-1658 and for Taunton 1660-1679. Putti hold escutcheons of arms of Cary, dexter (Argent, on a bend sable three roses of the field) and Wyndham, sinister, (Azure, a chevron between three lion's heads erased or) and hold palm fronds of mourning over the departed in form of a winged angel
