Description
Português: A capital pernambucana, Recife, possui exemplares de arquitetura religiosa de excepcional importância, tombados pelo Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN). Por não abrigar a sede da igreja católica no Brasil, o Recife teve seus templos barrocos construídos às custas de ricos comerciantes e senhores de engenho locais.
English: The capital of Pernambuco has examples of religious architecture of exceptional importance, listed by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN). Because it did not house the headquarters of the Catholic Church in Brazil, Recife had its Baroque temples built at the expense of wealthy local merchants and planters.
