Brick building in downtown Cashmere, Washington.

Summary

Description
English: This brick-faced concrete building facing Aplets Way south of Cottage Street is all that remains of what was once Cashmere's leading department store. Originally started as a branch of Wenatchee's Ellis-Forde Company, it was sold to the Mills Brothers in 1911 who began work on this building in 1914 to house expanded hardware and grocery departments. By the time it was completed the Mills Brothers had sold out to new owners who renamed the store the Cashmere Mercantile Company. That name would last barely a year before becoming the Hallum & Bermingham Company. They wouldn't last long either as the main building, built by Ellis-Forde in 1907, burned to the ground in February 1915 and because of poor economic conditions at the time, they would never rebuild. This annex was gutted, but was able to be rebuilt while the site of the original building was never fully redeveloped. A gas station was later built on the corner, and it is now a small park.
