Description

Em pleno Nordeste Transmontano, na Aldeia de Lagarelhos, freguesia de Vilar de Ossos, Vinhais, encontra-se um dos castanheiros com maior perímetro de Portugal: a Castanheira de Lagarelhos.

A tradição manda que os noivos vão visitar a árvore no dia do casamento. As gerações que a Castanheira já abençoou, no seu meio século de vida!

Como é normal em árvores desta idade, apresenta grandes cavidades no tronco e ramos principais, que infelizmente servem de caixote do lixo aos inúmeros visitantes que recebe todos os anos. Nem a placa a indicar o estatuto de protecção os dissuadiu de vandalizar esta monumental árvore.
