On Aug. 24 at 1:30 a.m. EDT (530 UTC) the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument aboard NASA-NOAA's Suomi NPP satellite captured an image of Hurricane Lane moving west of the Hawaiian Islands and blanketing the island chain with clouds.
