Cave 118 donor painting and drawing by Grunwedel

Summary edit

Description
English: Cave 118 donor painting and drawing by Grunwedel

Two figures in field I are better preserved, although their faces are also scratched. The figure in front is a kneeling man, his hands folded and between them three burning incense cones. He is dressed in a bordered and turned-up, collarless skirt with close-fitting sleeves. The skirt, which reaches slightly above the knee, is belted. The pants are of the same color and have the same border. This garment border is thought to be about a hand's width and bears figures of white color as an ornament, which are reminiscent of the Egyptian hieroglyph for stars, i.e. a roof-shaped figure with a small cross underneath. As headgear, the figure wears a striped headscarf of a very similar type to the painter pictures in the "Cave of the Painters”. Likewise, the footwear is gray calf boots with cruciate ligaments that run under the sole. A woman kneels behind him, who lifts the row and holds a kind of smokehouse in front of her breast with her. She is dressed in a black belted lap jacket with tight-fitting sleeves, which is provided with a red border all around. The sleeves have the same border as cuffs. The pattern that runs along this border resembles a figure lined up again and again, an "Arab fad" with white dots in between as space fillers, both patterns of white color. Under her lap jacket the woman wears a long, grass-green skirt without any folds and the same headscarf as the man on her head. The color of the face and hands is light flesh-colored, with a yellowish shade.
