Description
English: Detail of the ceiling painting Le roi prend Maëstricht en treize jours by Charles Le Brun in the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles. The painting is an alegorical representations of Louis XIV's victories. Victory is holding the shields of the conquered cities of Nijmegen, Utrecht and Worms. The warrior in red is about to take the shield of Maastricht from the frightened Dutch defender and receive the laurel wreath from Victory.
