Description

Celestial turtle of Taihu in Chinese Scholars' Garden, presented to Hamilton City Council in 1997 at the 10th anniversary of the sister-city relationship with Wuxi by its Municipal People's Government. According to a legend, the Celestial Turtle of Taihu Lake was an immortal creature which used to rescue people from natural disasters a long time ago, facilitating the creation of Wuxi.[1]

The bronze statue weights over 250 kilograms (550 lb) and is 1.4 metres (4 ft 7 in) long.[2]
