| Description |
English: Centre sliders on the Queensferry Blue Bridge. The Queensferry bascule bridge used to open but has now been fixed shut. Because the huge metal structure expands in the heat interlocking slider plates have been fixed at the centre to allow for horizontal movement, whilst at the same time preventing vertical movement. See also 1135316. The scrape marks on the plate give some indication of how much the bridge can expand. |
