Summary edit

Description	Château-Larcher (Vienne) La cité castrale (XIe - XIIIe). Situé sur un promontoire rocheux qui dominait la Clouère, le site fortifié, de 300 mètres de long, incluait l'église et le donjon. La famille de Morthemer est propriétaire d'un premier château aux XIe et XIIe siècles. La puissante famille des Lusignan fera reconstruire le château, dont on voit les ruines, au XIIIe siècle. Le site était ceint de douves en eau aujourd'hui comblées. Le chemin de ronde faisait le tour des remparts. On entre dans l'enceinte castrale par un imposant châtelet dont les deux tours étaient couronnées de créneaux. Le châtelet d'entrée a été reconstruit au XIVe siècle, il possédait un pont levis. L'église a été édifiée au XIe-XIIe siècle, la grosse tour qui masque en partie la façade date du XIVe siècle. Voir le site de la commune : chateau-larcher86.fr/historique-de-la-cite
