Português: O chafariz foi construído por Louis Sauvageau, em Viena e fundido em Val d’Oise, Paris. Constou em uma exposição realizada no ano de 1878 em Viena, Áustria, quando foi adquirido por D. Pedro II.

Inicialmente instalado na Praça XV de Novembro, durante o Governo Lacerda, devido às obras da Av. Perimetral, foi removido para a Praça da Bandeira onde permaneceu até 1978, quando se processou sua instalação no novo Jardim do Monroe que foi inaugurado em 1979. É o maior dos chafarizes ornamentais da Cidade.
