English: Change in Lithology The dark dolostone in the cliff is the Sailmhor Formation, and the paler limestone below is the top of the Eliean Dubh Formation. This marked a change from a shallow tidal environment to a subtidal one about 500 million years ago. The sea-level rise which caused the change can be traced all over the world at the beginning of the Ordovician period. |
