Notes Part of the Charles Ramsden Collection of Signed Bindings. Signed by Vanette. Macchi states; second quarter century, Paris, bound by Vanette. Calls himself pupil of Bradel. The Almanachs have him working at Froidmanteau (also called Fromental or Fromanteau) 15 between 1826-1832. Descamps-Scrive (Bibliothèque, II, 376) illustrates a binding in the black blind stamp style in which Meslant specialised. Schiffer collection (S. de Ricci, French signed bindings, III, 302) is a very ordinary production. See C. Ramsden, French Bookbinders, p. 212.
