Summary edit

Description
English: An electroscope uses charge separation induced by the presence of a nearby charge to detect that nearby charge. The resulting charge in the light weight foil leaves produces a mechanical separation due to the charged foils repelling each other. The electroscope cannot detect the sign of the nearby electric charge as the same separation is produced whether the nearby charge is positive or negative.
