English: Sir Charles Bunbury (center) with his horse trainer Cox and a stable boy in a circa 1801 study painting by Benjamin Marshall. The work was reportedly a preliminary painting for the later finished work "Surprise and Eleanor." Eleanor was Bunbury's Thoroughbred racemare that won the 1801 Epsom Derby and Epsom Oaks, the first time that feat had been accomplished by a mare. |
