Description

Passacaglia by Charles Hadcock, Installed March 1998.

"A man-made geological shift that has been exposed, tilted and uplifted. This abstract work, made of geometric plates of cast iron bolted together and weighing 20 tonnes, was inspired by the engineering feats of the Victorian Piers. Funded by the Arts Council Lottery Board with support from Brighton & Hove City Council."

Complete tosh as an art form (to the untrained eye it looks like some tunnel lining sections bolted together), it is however good fun for small children to climb on, and see how far you can run up. This, they are forbidden to do - in case they fall off and someone sues the Local Council. But they climb anyway.

A pinhole photograph taken with an adapted Lomo Lubitel Lubitel166B twin lens reflex, a medium format camera taking 120 film.

LOMO (ЛОМО) or Ленинградское Оптико-Механическое Объединение (Leningrad Optical-Mechanical Amalgamation) was/is a manufacturer of the advanced optical instruments, based in St. Petersburg, Russia. Lomographische AG, Austria took up the consumer camera brand following the collapse of the Soviet Union. The cameras have a cult following. Currently (March 2009) you can buy a new updated version of the camera from the [#//www.lomography.com/ Lomographic society] - bundled with starter packs of film + accessories + book starting from about £280 / €300 / $350.
