English: Gujiyaa is a traditional Indian dessert. It consists of two parts, the outer crust and filling. The filling basically is made with suji or semolina, dry fruits, sugar and khoa and coconut is also added some times. This is then covered with dough made of maida/ all purpose flour or wheat flour and water. Gujiya is then sealed by making a beautiful design. It is then fried in ghee. Another variant of this sweet is also called 'Chashni wali gujiya' that is gujiya soaked in sugar syrup. This type of gujiya consists of an extra element called chashni Or sugar syrup prepared with sugar, water, cardamom and sometimes saffron. Gujiyas are primarily prepared on the occasion of Holi. This is an inseparable dessert of northern parts of India. Though variant of this dessert is prepared in Gujarat with the name 'Ghughras', in Maharashtra it's called Karanji. Southern states of India also prepare this dessert. Traditionally in olden days the filling of gujiya was prepared using Jagerry and honey.
