English: Chester Terrace, Main Street, Burton-in-Kendal. These houses have some timber-framing under the stucco and were probably built in the 17C, when the first-floor overhang would have been normal, and altered in the 19C and 20C. Note the Venetian window in what looks to be an extension of a wing at the rear of the end house. On the right is the end of a terrace of late 18C or early 19C three-storey houses forming the west side of The Square. |
