Description
English: Chestnut-collared Longspur, Calcarius ornatus, baby birds in nest. These babies are ready to leave the nest soon, they have fresh new feathers, with only a few tufts of down here and there. Soon they will be out of the nest and official fledglings. Chestnut-collared Longspurs nest on the ground in grasslands.

NOTE: This nest was photographed as part of a nest monitoring project in the oil fields of Alberta, Canada by a professional trained in viewing sensitive nests and minimizing the disturbance to the birds and the surrounding vegetation.

Photographing nests simply to "snap a cute pic" can expose them to predators and disrupt the feeding and care of nestlings!
