Title |
English: Children in front of stump house, ca. 1900 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||
Description |
English: Some of the stumps left from western Washington's immense old growth trees were large enough to live in or use for animal shelters with little modification. By around 1900, such stump houses were curiosities. They showed up on postcards, commemorative plates and other tourist items. This lithograph postcard, probably made around 1900, shows three children standing in front of a stump house which claims to be the first home on Coal Creek, Washington. According to the card, the floor inside the stump measured 8 1/2 x 13 feet, and there was additional space in the bunk room above. Original title: First home on Coal Creek, Washington. Floor inside of stump is 8 1/2 x 13 ft. with bunk room above.
