Handwritten on mount verso: Dry Creek Ridge, Idaho. 1901 Caption on mount verso: This is the first schoolhouse built on Dry Creek Ridge in the Troy area. This picture was taken in 1901. Back row from left to right: Victor Johnson, Chester Hilliard, Axel Olson, Josie Granli (now Mrs. Frank Lindberg), and Miss Hattie Stayley, teacher. Front row. Maggie Granli, Esther Granli, Ida Olson (now Mrs. Herman Polson), Florence Martenson (now Mrs. Leonard Nelson), Jennie Martenson, Robert Olson, Albert Olson, Oscar Olson and William Granli.

Troy was established in 1892 under the name Huff's Gulch. In 1892 the name was changed to Vollmer and was finallly renamed Troy in 1897. The town was a stop on the Spokane & Palouse Railway (later the Northern Pacific Railway).
