English: Napoleon the chinchilla was unwell. Veterinary examination considered urinary blockage as a cause. This x-ray shows a white spot at the bladder near the tail at the bottom of the image, which is a kidney stone.
Subsequent analysis found that the stone was calcium carbonate. The vet reported that this is the most common stone in chinchillas. The recommended treatment is conformity to standard healthy chinchilla diet. Chinchillas should eat coarse hay. Chinchillas should not eat alfalfa or high calcium greens such as parsley, kale and spinach. |
