Title
Hangzhou Landscape
Description
English: Inscribed in the upper right corner of this painting is a line taken from a poem by the 9th-century classical Chinese writer Zhang Hu. From the poem "Keeping the Temple in Hangzhou," the painter of this landscape wrote:

"A long drought in the mountains, no moisture from the overcast clouds"

He follows this with the date "Summer, 5th month, 1610" and the name "Sheng Maoye." This is likely a copy of a work by Sheng Maoye done on the theme of Zhang's poem and may have been painted during the 18th century.
