English: TOUR THE LADY SLIPPER SCENIC BYWAY AND CAMP RABIDEAU - MONDAY, JUNE 26
The Chippewa National Forest invites you to a car caravan tour of the Lady Slipper Scenic Byway on June 26 at 10 a.m. Visitors will meet at the historic Norway Beach Visitor Center and follow naturalist Steve Gang in a car caravan up to Rabideau Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp, a national historic landmark near Blackduck, Minn. The 27-mile car tour will stop at several locations along the Scenic Byway, including Knutson Dam campground and the Lady Slipper Wayside Rest to view Minnesota's state flower, the Showy Lady's Slipper. The final stop of the caravan will be Rabideau CCC Camp. The camp host will lead a one-hour tour of the site, sharing stories of the CCC boys and touring eight of the buildings. It is a wonderful glimpse into the life of the CCC's. Visitors are encouraged to bring a lunch for picnic at Camp Rabideau. The car caravan will end at the completion of the walking tour of the CCC camp. Plan on approximately three hours for the entire tour. Visitors must drive their own vehicles to the site and back. The Norway Beach Visitor Center is located five miles east of Cass Lake off Highway 2. For more information, please call the Chippewa National Forest Supervisors Office at 218-335-8600. |
