Description
English: Famously known as the Chota Imambada, the monument was built by Mohammad Ali Shah in 1839 for the purpose of Muharram azadari. It is another important center for Muharram majalis and processions. The interiors are considered more attractive than any other Imambadas in Lucknow and it is also known as a ‘palace of lights’. Inside the compound there two tombs, one mosque, a large pond and a hamam (bath enclosure) as part of the Aabdar Khana (water storage and cooling system). The dome of the Imambada featured on the cover of the "Dans la ville d'or et d'argent", a novel by Kenizé Mourad. This photograph was taken from the high entrance gate of Chota Imambada from where all the buildings inside the compound are visible along with the pond that leads to the Chota Imambada stairs. The mosque in the background is the Jama mosque.
