Description
The Chr. J. Kampmann was delivered from its Copenhagen builders to the Danish steamship company Vendila in 1924. It was named after the chairman of the company. When Denmark was occupied by Germany in April 1940, the ship was in Canada and it became part of the Canadian Merchant Navy, keeping its name. On a journey from Trinidad to New York she was torpedoed and sunk on Nov 2, 1942 by the German U-160. jmarcussen.dk (in Danish) uboat.net.

Signature and date bottom right:

Chr. Benjamin Olsen 1923
Notes The 1923 date cited by Bruun Rasmussen is dubious, but not impossible. The vessel was delivered in June 1924, so Olsen had to rely on the drawings if he wanted to paint her in 1923. However, if the date is read as 1928, Olsen could perhaps have relied on a photo by Knud Fredfeldt, showing the ship with a cargo of timber exactly as painted.
