Français : Tombe de Nicolas Marie Dieudonné Potot 1771 - 1837
C'est un ancien avocat au parlement, ancien chef de bataillon et ancien chanoine de la cathédrale de Metz. Dans ses différentes fonctions, il va donner sa vie aux pauvres. Lorsqu’il meurt en 1837, c'est un choc pour la cité messine, les personnes dans le besoin sont inconsolables. Ses funérailles vont être grandioses, il va obtenir les honneurs civils, ecclésiastiques et militaires. Très vite sa tombe va devenir un lieu de pèlerinage pour les pauvres qui viendront lui rendre hommage en déposant toutes sortes d'objets aux pieds du monument (surtout des chapelets). |
