English: Civil War celebrations at the Guildhall Looking southwards along High Street by the gates of the Guildhall. This fellow was helping to promote an English Civil War exhibition. In 1651, Worcester was the site of the last battle of the war. Cromwell won the battle, but the city itself was fiercely loyal to King Charles. There is a small bust of Oliver Cromwell with his ears nailed to the wall to be found on the front face of the Guildhall, which was put in place some time after the restoration of the monarchy! |
