Summary edit

Description
English: Clayton Fireclay Works. Julius Whitehead established a fireclay works at Hole Bottom, Brow Lane in 1880 to supply local potteries, exploiting a rich seam of clay which ran along Hole Bottom Beck valley. The chimney is said to have been built by Julius's eldest son Claude in a single day, with decorative tiles added later to commemorate Bradford City's 1911 FA Cup victory. 'The Towers' in the centre of the picture was the Whiteheads family home and boasts a rooftop observatory which became a prototype for more modern instruments. The works closed in 1970 and the house remained in the family until 1988.
