The former Bascogne Hotel is located on Prospect Avenue in Cleveland's Central neighborhood. Constructed in the late 19th Century, the building was originally six separate brick townhouses, which were altered and integrated into a single structure to house a hotel in the early 20th Century. The hotel eventually went downhill and became blighted and vacant, and was rescued from demolition in 1983 by the HELP foundation, which rehabilitated the building and converted it into the HELP Six Chimneys Apartments, which serve as transitional housing to help developmentally disabled individuals transition from institutions, nursing homes, and group homes to their own apartment. Today, the building remains intact and in use in a positive manner, and has helped hundreds of people achieve full independence in their respective living situations.
