Description

The Plaza Apartments were built in 1901 on Prospect Avenue in Cleveland's Central neighborhood. The Gothic Revival-style building was designed by the firm Steffens, Searles & Hirsh, and is one of several middle-class apartment buildings on the street built during the same period. The yellow brick building features a stone foundation and trim, and a garden courtyard on the west side of the structure. During the 1970s and 1980s, the building was known as the center of the Cleveland arts and music scene. In 1984, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, along with several nearby buildings. The building today is known as the Plaza Suites, and remains in use as an apartment building.
