This structure was constructed in 1920 to house the United Motors Company, and is located on Prospect Avenue in Cleveland's Central neighborhood. Known as the United Motors Building, the Classical Revival-style structure has ornate terra cotta trim, cornice, and fluted columns that heavily use the Acanthus Leaf in their capitals. The building was renovated around 1957, which replaced the original windows with less flattering modern ones, and led to the deterioration and destruction of several historic elements in the process. Though it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, the building continued to languish and was underutilized until 2002, when a through exterior restoration was carried out as part of a renovation that converted the former Car Dealership into the headquarters of the Greater Cleveland Young Women's Christian Association, or YWCA, a role that the lovely building continues to fulfill to this day.
