Summary

edit
Description One female Ailanthus (Ailanthus altissima) tree can produce up to 350,000 seeds per year. Dense clusters of these highly conspicuous papery seed clusters persist throughout the winter. Seeds are easily distributed across the landscape by wind, compared with oak acorns which are dependent upon wildlife for dispersal. (Photo courtesy of USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station)
