| Description |
English: Close neighbours. A short unsurfaced track leads to the churchyard gate and provides access to the cottages on the other side > 942417. Most of the cottages surrounding St Mary's are now holiday homes. A parishioner recalls that some very poor people used to live in the lane leading up to the church, and that people made such an awful noise with shouting and swearing that the then vicar, Fr Vrentham (1927-44) threatened to prosecute them for disturbing the service. In the 1980s the owners of one holiday cottage complained to the vicar about the noise of the church bells disturbing their Sunday morning lie-in. |
