English: Coat of arms of the city of Bremen (Germany) from the year 1562, sandstone formerly painted and with gold-plated letters. Made under the government of mayor Daniel von Büren by the sculptor Szervas and installed at the Herdentor (“Flock gate”). Nowadays on display in the Focke-Museum in Bremen. The text at the border of the emblem says: “Bremen wes ghedechtich late neict mer in Dv beist öhrer mechtich. Anno Domimi 1562” (“Bremen be deliberate, don’t let more in then you can cope with. Anno Domini 1562”).
Deutsch: Bremer Wappen von 1562, Sandsteinrelief ehemals bemalt und mit vergoldeter Inschrift. Unter Bürgermeister Daniel von Büren vom Bildhauer Szervas angefertigt und am Herdentor angebracht. Jetzt im Focke-Museum ausgestellt. Um das Wappen läuft der Spruch: „Bremen wes ghedechtich late neict mer in Dv beist öhrer mechtich. Anno Domimi 1562“ („Bremen sei bedächtig, lass nicht mehr ein, du seiest ihrer mächtig. Anno Domini 1562“). |
