English: Heraldic tapestry with the Medici and Della Rovere coat of arms dated 1657-1669, from a drawing and cartoon by Agostino Melissi (?) and made in wool and silk by Pietro Fèvére (?).
The tapestry is kept in the Museo Nazionale di Palazzo Reale in Pisa. The coat of arms, surmounted by the grand ducal crown, is divided into two parts, in which the insignia of the Medici and Della Rovere families are represented respectively. In 1634, the marriage between Ferdinando II de' Medici and the very young Vittoria Della Rovere was celebrated. From the documents, the tapestry does not seem to have been made for the occasion, but it is evidence of the kinship between the two families. On either side of the coat of arms are cherubs among fruit, ribbons and leaves. The tapestry is fragmentary, deprived in ancient times of the sides and lower part. |
