| Description |
Bronze coffin inside the Langenau mausoleum at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio. The 1908 Langenau tomb is vernacular architecture, which means something very unique and with local sentiment. The doors and interior, however, have Greek Revival elements. Unlike most mausoleums, this tomb does not bury the bodies in vaults or crypts. Rather, massive bronze coffins sitting on marble shelves serve as the burial site. Note how the coffins rest on small strips of metal, to allow for adequate air circulation around the decaying body. |
