Colchester type two-piece brooch
Description
English: Copper-alloy brooch of early Roman date. Incomplete Colchester type two-piece brooch dating to the 1st C. AD. The head of the brooch measures 7.9mm wide by 3mm high and has become slightly bent after deposition. The spring remains attached. It has five coils of copper-alloy wire and an external chord which is held in place by a rearward lug on the head of the brooch. The axis bar and pin are missing. The bow is sub-circular in section, with a slightly flattened underside. It measures 3.2mm diameter at the top, tapering to a point at the foot. Only a remnant of the catchplate remains. Overall, the piece measures 34.9mm high and weighs 2.71g.
