Summary edit

Description
English: Coldberry Mineshop. Lead Mining Landscapes; Durham County Council;

Coldberry Mineshop: Many mines were in very remote locations indeed…… Sometimes mine companies built lodging houses for the workforce at the site of the mine. Often they were literally just outside the mine entrance …...they became home for a week for the men and boys …… In the early 19C mineshops were shameful places. Dirty, overcrowded and primitive, with many bunk beds crammed into small badly ventilated rooms…… A typical mineshop had one or two upstairs sleeping rooms, with stable for the mine horse and a blacksmiths

workshop downstairs. Not all mineshops had sleeping quarters.
