Confederate Victory in the Last Battle of the War

A colonel in the 2nd Texas Cavalry, Ford operated in the Rio Grande district of Texas protecting Confederate trade routes into Mexico. His troops overwhelmed Union troops at Palmito Ranch, near Brownsville, Texas, on May 13 1865, in the last battle of the Civil War—

the final victory in a lost cause.
