Description

Commiphora marlothii

English: Various specimens of Commiphora marlothii growing as cremnophytes on cliff ledges near Skrikfontein, Limpopo. During early winter they are completely leafless, despite good rains, and their pale and contorted bare branches present a contrast with the dark rocky background. Similar-looking Albizia tanganyicensis trees (likewise pale-barked but more lanky) occur nearby, but appear to specialize on steep barren slopes below cliff faces, while Commiphora mollis has dark bark and occurs lower down in steep wooded gullies between outcrops.
